Once I got to Newark, I didn’t have any problems checking in my luggage. I had to wait awhile in line to pay the extra baggage fee, but all in all I can’t complain. I flew out from Newark at 11:30 p.m. It was nice to have a long layover between my flights , that way I was able to make my connecting flight in Newark.
The flight to Warsaw was pretty uneventful. Sat by a guy who was fluent in Polish and English, so that was pretty cool. We talked quite a bit on the flight as well as slept. Poland is a 6 hour difference from the East Coast, so I landed around 1:45 p.m. (Polish time). It really wasn’t a bad flight at all, because it was only about 8 ½ hours. I only had a 45 minute layover in Warsaw, but thankfully the airport is very small, so I was able to make my connecting flight to Wroclaw without any problems.
I landed in Wroclaw around 4:00 p.m. (1 hour flight) and then I was picked up by someone from the club who drove me to Polkowice. I asked the guy when I got in the car how long the drive would take and he said "2 years" - to which I replied "okay". I laughed inside, because I'm thinking he meant 2 hours or something...I don't know ha. Polkowice is 45 miles away from Wroclaw, but because of traffic it took us about an hour and a half to get there. Once I arrived, I met the president, the coaches, and my teammates. I hung out at practice for a little bit and then I went and got a bite to eat with the team manager, David.
Today I was able to sleep in some, because I did not have a physical until 10:30 a.m. I had a little bit of trouble going to sleep last night, but all things considered it wasn’t too bad. I feel like I have been running around all day. After my physical I went and was shown where to exchange money. I then drove with our team trainer to another town and got my knees checked out by an ortho doctor. Then I cam back and we had a team meeting that consisted of trying on uniforms on, etc. After that, I went and got lunch with a couple of my teammates (so far the two meals I have had here in Poland have been delicious). Then I had to run home, because the internet guy came to try to figure out my internet, but he wasn’t able to get it figured out, so someone from the company is going to have to come. Thankfully I have been able to use someone else's wireless in the building which has worked out okay. After he left, I rested for about 20 minutes and then I had to go back to the hospital to get a heart test done. I am now sitting here and writing my blog, before I have to leave for practice here in about 30 minutes.
On a side note, I learned when I exchanged money today, that the currency is not the Euro here, but rather the zloty. On a side note, right now you can get about 3.14 zloty for 1 US dollar. A better exchange rate than if it was Euro that is for sure.
I am headed off to practice now, I will try to write some more after practice if I am able to :). I have to run to the store, and do a few other things. When I get the chance, I will also post some pics of my apartment over here.
Thank you to everyone for your prayers!!
God bless,
Megan
