Today was a refreshing day here. I was blessed to be able to go to church, get lunch with some people from church, hang out with a friend, come home for a little bit, get dinner with a teammate, then hang out with a teammate who oven roasted some yummy chestnuts!
I wanted to share with you all the notes from today's message at church:
1/10/16
Nehemiah 11
Building Up the Body of Christ
The Holy City
1.Living in the city (vv. 1-3)
*City – people living in close proximity
•“When we choose a place to live, is our first thought to please ourselves, or to be useful to God?” J.I. Packer
•“Never underestimate the importance of simply being physically present in the place where God wants you or has you.” Warren Wiersbe
2.Serving in the city (vv. 4-20)
•Jesus recognizes each person’s role in life.
•1 Peter 4:11
3.City within a city.
•Jeremiah 29 - I sent you to this city…settle down in it.
oSeek “shalom” ore peace within the city.
•“Christians are called to be an alternative city within an earthly city, an alternative human culture within every human culture.” Timothy Keller
•The church is meant to be the “Holy City.”
It was a super encouraging message for me. I think the Lord knew I needed to be refreshed and renewed and for that I am so thankful.
How have you been encouraged or renewed today? If you are longing to be rejuvenated, look to the ONE who is the ultimate source of TRUE peace, joy, hope, and contentment. The Lord has been showing me that through tough and difficult circumstances He is there. We may not always "feel" like He is hearing our prayers, but trust me that He is. His ways are usually not our ways and so we can rest knowing that Jesus is in the driver's seat. Lets step back this week, take a seat, and watch and see the good things the Lord has in store for us this coming week!
God bless,
Megan
