Greetings from Poland! I just got back today from spending the weekend in Berlin. It was so much fun spending some time with my sisters and getting to explore a new city/country that they had never been to. I had been in Berlin, but only at the airport, so it was great for me.
To finish out my sisters time in Poland, my sister Molly is going to share a little bit about our weekend in Berlin:
Well, it is hard to believe that our time here in Poland has come to an end. Over the weekend we were able to go to Berlin, Germany because Meg had two days off. We arrived Friday evening and stayed until Sunday morning. We had smooth traveling and it only took around three hours to get there. Once we arrived in Berlin we checked into our hotel (Holiday Inn), and then went and grabbed dinner at Delores which is the equivalent to a Chipotle in the states. It was amazing :) We then went to KaDaWe which is a large department store mall with seven floors. KaDaWe is the second largest department store in Europe. Each floor is broken down into textiles, food, clothing, perfume, accessories and so forth.
On Saturday we were able to hit up some of the historical sites and take some pictures. We saw the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, and pieces of the Berlin Wall. We went to another mall and had some Vietnamese food, which was good. You may be wondering why we did not eat any German food, but we decided that we would eat food that we were familiar with! None of us are huge sausage eaters, so we decided to stick with what we knew for sure we liked :). On a side note, we did try some Polish sausage and sauerkraut since we have been in Poland! We then went to an IKEA store and looked around. They have IKEA stores in the states, but believe it or not this was the first time Mor and I have ever been to one. I somehow managed to sprain my ankle, so by this point from all the walking it started to hurt. I think I sprained it from working out with Meg and two of her teammates at a fitness center in the mall Friday morning before we left for Berlin. Anyways, after walking around IKEA, we went back to the hotel and ordered some pizza and potato wedges and then went to a grocery store too look around. We ended up getting some gummy bears, a mug, postcards, and some t-shirts for some souvenirs. Overall, it was a fun trip and I am definitely glad we were able to go.
Today, we got back to Polkowice around noon and had some barbecue chicken for dinner along with some strawberry perogis. Tonight we will be fixing some shrimp, salmon, and pasta for dinner. I told my sisters when we were in Berlin that who would have guessed we would get to visit Berlin together. I definitely never would have imagined that if you had asked me three years ago when we were in college. The Lord has truly blessed each of us and given us all amazing opportunities beyond what we would have thought.
Well, we will be leaving around 4am (10 p.m. EST) to start our trek back to the USA. We will be flying from Wroclaw, Poland to Berlin, Germany, then to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and then into Roanoke, VA. We would appreciate your prayers for safe travels and safety!
Molly
