Today was a great day. We had practice in the morning which basically consisted of a recovery type set up which was nice. Then I went to the gym and got a lift in which was great :)!!
This afternoon I relaxed some, and then I took a nap. I also made some banana chocolate chip bread to take to dinner tonight that I went to with some of my teammates. We had a lot of fun hanging out which was nice. Tomorrow we are back to the practice floor in the evening!
I wanted to share with you some quotes from a book that I have been reading. I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far!!!
Some quotes from a book I am currently reading that I wanted to share with you all:
"If you build your identity around anything that can be gained or lost, you are set up for crisis. There is only one thing you can build your identity around that cannot be gained or lost: God’s love. Who you are, your identity, is created to be defined by His love."
"You are not defined by what you do. You are defined by who the Father says you are."
"At the root of our struggles with identity is shame. Shame is the junk that creates a breeding ground for the infestations. Shame has defined who you are. It is feeling that you are not going to have what you need, that you are an imposter, that you don’t measure up and you are going to be found out."
"Your daily existence is a tension between the Father wanting to build your identity and the enemy wanting to threaten it. Jesus responded to this by passively receiving the affirmation of who He was from the Father and then actively rejecting the accusation of the enemy. Receive who you are. Reject who you are not. Then you will, like Jesus, emerge with clarity in mission."
"The more you know who you are, the more clarity you will have to pursue mission. If you are clear in mission, you will attract people. They will want to be on mission with you and in relationship with you, and a community built on a secure identity will be healthy."
"When your identity is built around Jesus you can overflow the mission you are to accomplish, not the one you are pressured to accomplish."
"Jesus was crucified naked and suffered a death that was designed to shame. He faced the shame, despised the shame and by embracing the cross, He embraced the shame. Jesus died in the place of your shame."
"Shame breeds infestations because it distorts our image of God, which distorts our image of self."
"Your identity is shaped by the lie you believe about who you are. That lie is shame-based and manifests as fear. These fears are the chief way the enemy seeks to hurt us. Identity is a complex process, but the quickest way to figure out how God is building you is to look where the enemy wants to hurt you. The devil is a terrible poker player and he will show you where God wants to build you by the way he attacks your heart through lies. We are afraid because we have been hurt."
"Our fears drive us to meet a true desire in a false way. Our fears shape a false understanding of God. The fruits are who God really is and who we can become. We falsely believe we cannot get what we need. When we get what we need from Jesus, our desire is met and we overflow that very fruit to others."
"When you understand who you are, it changes how you relate to the world. The lie of shame says you will never be worthy enough, safe enough, or adequately taken care of; that you will never be enough, period. The truth of the Gospel is you are loved for who you are."
"God’s will for our lives is that we are submitted to the Father, empowered by the Spirit and conformed to the image of the Son."
"When we are aware of the pain, we have to train ourselves to lean into that pain. By leaning into the pain, we resist the temptation to avoid building fig leaves that protect us from the fear we feel regarding who we are."
"Leaning into our feelings opens up the process of exploring and discovering the fears and lies we want to run from. The more we run, the more we condition ourselves to numb out."
"Addictions are the way we try to quiet the pain in our hearts. It is how we suppress the hurt because the grief brings too much terror to even process."
"It is wrong to always act on strong emotion, but not wrong to always feel strongly."
